In roll of thunder, hear my cry , what does the poem mean in the beginning of chapter 11? The poem is , Roll of thunder hear my cry over the water bye and bye ole man comin down the line whip in hand to beat me down but I ain’t gonna let him turn me around. Please help

it might be a poem by a slave or a person in a chain gang as a prisoner whose going to be whipped but is determined to stop him.

I would say it means something or some one is trying to bring the subject down to feel bad but they will not let them.
