Given that:
Jane gets 1/2 of a gold star for a single clean up.
To get 3 whole gold stars she needs x number of clean up.
So equation is:

(1)/(2) * x= 3
Multiply both sides by 2.
x = 2 x 3
x=6
Jane will help her teacher 6 times to get 3 whole gold stars.
or
1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 = (1+1+1+1+1+1)/2 = 6/2 = 3 whole stars for 6 times help.

Answer: 6 times
