In a dehydration reaction monomers are joined to become a polymer, in order for this to occur water is removed. Dehydration itself implies removal of water and this makes the molecules bind with other identical molecules making polymers. This bonding can be brought back with process of hydrolysis which breaks the polymers to monomers.
