The Hawaiian Islands were formed by volcanic activity. How do the Hawaiian Islands differ from a volcanic arc?

The Hawaiian Islands are fixed, but volcanic arcs can move as tectonic plates slowly spread apart. The Hawaiian Islands formed over a hot spot; avolcanic arc forms when one lithospheric plate is subducted under another one.
