When you are given an equation or an expression and told the values for the variables, you can just substitute them into the equation to solve:

8b^2 - 5m + 12
8(6)^2 - 5(8) + 12
8(36) - 40 + 12
288 - 40 + 12
248 + 12
260

Answer:
260

Hope this helps!
