-5x + 7 = 26 ... (Equation I)
2x - 7y = 16 ... (Equation II)

Solving for x
-5x + 7 = 26 ... (Equation I)

Subtract 7 from both sides of the equation
-5x + 7 - 7 = 26 - 7
-5x = 19

Divide the equation by -5
-5x/-5 = 19/-5
x = -3.8

Solving for y
2x - 7y = 16 ... (Equation II)

Substitute 3.8 for x in Equation II
2(-3.8) - 7y = 16
-7.6 - 7y = 16

Add 7.6 to both sides of the equation
-7.6 + 7.6 - 7y = 16 + 7.6
-7y = 23.6

Divide the equation by -7
-7y/-7 = 23.6/-7
y = -3.371 (approximately)
