How did the fear of communism during 1950s affect the United States

This is a simple one :)

Americans often feared communism, as you weren't essentially allowed to own land, they often feared the USSR would take over the states, and all their freedom. The next part isn't as important, but religion; they wouldn't be allowed to worship freely in public like they used to.
