IDEA (The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) is federal law that requires schools to provide special education and treatment to children with special needs. To receive special educations, children must be “adversely affected” by 13 conditions: specific learning disability (SLD), autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment (including ADHD), speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury and visual impairment, including blindness.
