What is the result of sodium ions moving across the axon's membrane during an action potential?

During an action potential , the depolarization is so large that the potential difference across the cell membrane briefly reverses polarity, with the inside of the cell being positively charged. This change in the charge occurs due to the influx (inflow) of sodium ions into the cell.
