This is the concept of algebra. A parent function is the simplest function of the family of functions. For the family of linear function, y=ax+b, the simplest form of this family is y=x. Given the function y=(x-10)3=3x-30, is formed from the family of linear functions by adjusting the the form y=x, by a gradient of 3 and adjusting the intercept to cut through y=-30.
