With Japan’s lack of natural resources and dependence on foreign trade, its economy greatly suffered during the Great Depression when other countries no longer import silk. To cope with this condition, Japan invaded China’s Manchuria and created a Japanese military dictatorship. Japan became a totalitarian state, where leadership was a group and opposition was minimized. Later, it allied with Italy and Germany to fight the US in World War II.
