Managers are often described as needing a vision that allows them to be both "in the weeds" and "at 30,000 feet". This is what is meant by strategic ambidexterity - the ability of a manager to be efficient and regimented in meeting the needs of today's business while looking forward towards the environmental, situational, and market changes which could significantly affect the business going forward. Many argue that this balancing act is the toughest part of any manager's job, especially in today's climate of rapid change.
