How did americans feel about cuban rebels at the beginning of the war of 1898?

At the beginning of the war of 1898, American's held Cubans in high regard because they admired them for their aspirations for freedom. It was a noble feat for Cubans to desire such freedom and it garnered much respect from Americans.

The feelings that the American had about Cuban rebels at the beginning of the war of the 1898 was that the Americans have felt admiration towards the Cuban rebels because the Cuban rebels has aspirations for freedom or to achieve the freedom they always wanted.
