Black americans were hard hit by the gloom times of the depression years of the mid 1870s because

They were still trying to gain more right as whites they had right but not as many so when the depression came it was harder being that whites had more rights to a something that the African Americans did not have right to at the time. Which probably made it harder to find jobs.
Jobs= Money
Money= food, clothes etc.
