Food vacoules are empty. Food vacoules are membrane enclosed structures mainly found in organisms of kingdom protista. They are usually formed when the cell comes into contact with the food materials in a process referred to as phagocytosis. Once the food is enclosed in food vacoules they fuse with lysosomes which release hydrolytic enzymes to enhance the process of digestion.
