The criteria used in diagnosing patients with SLE are the following;
 · Malar rash
 · Photosensitivity
 · Discoid skin
 · Mouth or nose ulcers
 · Neurologic disorders
 · Arthritis
 · Cardio pulmonary involvement
 · Immunologic disorders
 · Renal disorder
 · Hematologic disorder
 · Antinuclear antibodies
 The presence of at least any of these indicates a possible lupus diagnosis for an individual exhibiting it.
