A chemical reaction is the name for a process in which atoms are rearranged by breaking and reforming chemical bonds.

An example of a chemical reaction would be the burning of the sugar glucose:

C_(6) H_(12) O_(6)(s) + 6O_(2)(g)
6 CO_(2) (g) + H_(2) O (g)

This chemical reaction breaks the chemical bonds in the solid(s) form of the sugar glucose and rearranges them into carbon dioxide and water vapor which are released into the air as gases when this reaction takes place.

I hope this helped!
