The three assumptions are that: the abnormalities are multiply determined (they are caused by more than one underlying factor), the environment and the culture around the child is interdependent in shaping the behavior, and the development deals with both continuities (gradual changes) and discontinuities (abrupt, non-predictive behavioral changes).
