Why did wiesel point out the countryside outside the train?

Wiesel takes the time to point out the countryside they are passing on the train to show the Jewish people who are leaving their homeland and heading to territory that is unknown. It also points out the differences between how beautiful the countryside is and how dark and depressing the cattle car was.
