Rhineland was a part of Western Germany where Germany was forbidden from having troops and the territory was occupied and governed by troops from the US, France, Belgium, and Britain. In 1936, Hitler sent his troops there and established that Germany would no longer allow France to be the dominant military power in the region and in Europe in general.
