Answer is To bind neurotransmitters and generate an action potential in the sarcolemma.

The motor end plate is the area between the motor neuron and the muscle fibre. It contains acetylcholine receptors which binds neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter is released at the neuromuscular junction which stimulates the skeletal muscles to contract to generate an action potential in sarcolemma of muscles.
