Corporations worked to maximize profits in several ways. There were many methods, such as decrease the cost of producing goods or services by paying workers lower wages or paying as little as they could for raw materials.

Folsom’s had a different view of Rockefeller tactics. His opinion was that customers won with Rockefeller’s because the size of the company allowed him to lower the costs of kerosene and still have profit. This was called horizontal and vertical integration. They created a giant company with lower production costs. This is called horizontal integration and consists of consolidating many firms in the same business. This was Rockefeller’s method.
