The American trial procedure is an adversarial system of justice. Adversarial systems are a type of legal system that is commonly used in countries that have two parties being represented by two separate advocates before someone who is considered impartial, generally this is the defendant and his lawyer, the plaintiff and their lawyer, and the impartial person or group is the judge and/or jury.
