Cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks) perform the role of regulating the cell cycle. They act as checkpoints by creating a signal cascade once they are passed to allow the cell cycle to continue between phases. If there is an error, the Cdks will stop the cell cycle and signal for repair mechanisms.
