Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) describes the stage of HIV infection that occurs when a person’s immune system is severely weakened.AIDS is the most severe phase of HIV infection.

This stage is characterized with very low number of helper T cells in the blood, badly damaged immune systems so that the infected get an increasing number of severe illnesses, called opportunistic illnesses.
