Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) is the interpretation of bloodstains. The best way to document blood-spatter patterns for subsequent bloodstain pattern analysis are photographs. Phorographs taken with a macro lens give the greatest amount of detail and are most powerfull in bloodstrain pattern analysis. A crime scene photographer is usually the person that makes these photographs.

The best way to document blood-spatter patterns for analysis is through photography. Proper documentation of bloodstains verifies the integrity of the scene and the evidence within it. The most frequently use tools for collecting bloodstain evidence is high-resolution photography because it provides quality presentations for subsequent courtroom testimony and allows for outside analysis by other experts. Other methods used for evidence documentation is by note taking, sketching, and video recording.
