The soil is composed of bits of rocks, sand, minerals, clay, decayed organic materials or remains of once living parts of animals, which is pressed together, and harden. It supply plants with nutrients, most of which are adsorbed on clay mineral surfaces or bound within organic compounds as part of the living organisms.
