What is the difference between a monosaccharide and a disaccharide provide examples of each?

Monosaccharide
( mono = single or 1 )
(Saccharine = sugar )

Examples:
Glucose
Fructose
Galactose

Acronym for remembering : GOOD FRIENDS GATHER

Disaccharide
(Di = double AKA 2)
(Saccharine = Sugar)

Disaccharides are made of any 2 monosaccharides joined together by glycosidic bonds. Therefore the name Disaccharide.

Examples:
Sucrose
Maltose
Lactose
