100 - 24.24 = 75.76
75.76 / 2 = 37.88
He spent $37.88 at each store.
You can prove this by doing 37.88 x 2 = 75.76

$25.76 because divide 100 by 2 its 50 and subtract 24.24 from 50 and get 254.76 it amount spent
