is it moving 3 meters east and then 2 meters west, or moving 2 meters west from a position of 3 meters east?
well for the first one, starting point would of course be 0m, east directions are positive so + 3m, the west is negative so -2m. result is +1m, or 1m east depending on how you are supposed to write it.
for the second one, well displacement is the distance between the ending position and the starting position, so it simply moved -2m from the start of +3m, which would put it at a final position of +1m. the final position +1m, minus the starting position, +3, equals -2m, or 2 meters west.
