Alcmaeon of Croton was the first to believe that the brain is involved in cognition. He is considered to be a student of Pythagoras and one of the most important natural philosophers and medical scientists of Antiquity. He was the first to propose that the brain is the organ of the mind and the "seat of sensations". He focused his work on the sense of vision and he believed that there was a connection between the brain and the sense organs.
