In the story "Ten Years," Ha Jin decides that she wants to see her teacher again. She wants the teacher to know that not all of her students have forgotten her. Moreover, she feels a little guilty due to the part she played in the teacher's experience in a reeducation camp. However, when she eventually sees her teacher, she realizes that the woman has changed enourmously. Her years in the camp have transformed her, and now she is a bitter and unhappy woman.
