When Ben and Jerry started their business, they did it in the form of a Partnership. Then to raise more money after five years in their venture, they switched to a Corporation giving them the ability to sell stock to the public.

Initially they started their business in the form of partnership
They both chip in $12,000 of their own money to make an ice cream parlor in a renovated gas station.
The form of the company change after they sold their companies to a giant corporation called Unilever in April, 2000.
