The unit shares the following painting from 1930 titled “American Gothic”. Let’s imagine that you didn’t know why this painting was named “American Gothic”, what inspired the painter to create this piece, or what aspect of life in the 1930s it is capturing – what are some aspects of this painting that might help you infer what this painting was about? What would you name this painting? Can you think of any other historical paintings that you are familiar with?
