The Hongwu Emperor (September 21, 1328 – June 24, 1398) whose real name was Zhu Yuanzhang (Chu Yüan-chang) was the founder and first emperor of the Míng Dynasty that ruled China for nearly three hundred years.

He worked for the welfare of people when china was lying under great economic and agricultural depression. He helped the peasants by the increased food supply resulting from Hongwu's agricultural reforms and New World foods, such as corn and sweet potatoes .The Hongwu Emperor lowered land taxes and divided the large land estates among the poor masses which created equal distribution of agricultural land among the people.
