2x + 20 = 3x - 8 /subtract 20 from both sides
2x = 3x - 8 - 20 /subtract 3x from each side
2x - 3x = - 8 - 20 /combine like terms
-x = -28 /multiply by -1 to get rid of the minus
x = 28
