What was the main political challenge Mexico faced after independence? - Conservatives and liberals had opposing views of government. Dictatorships left citizens with no say in government decisions. The main political challenge that Mexico faced after independence was the conservatives and liberals fighting over opposing views of government. This caused a series of 50 governments in the next 30 years after independence with most being result of military coups. While the conservatives proposed the old spanish model, the liberals wanted a system close to the one of the United States.
