The reasons why Dr. Williams chose this field of work have to do mainly with his social background. He was born in an African American family in a society where racism was a serious issue and African American citizens did not have access to a proper health care. He was worried about this situation which he worked hard to improve. He founded an interracial hospital where he had the chance to perform the first heart surgery to a young black man who had been stabbed.
