The Ozone Layer's importance comes in its most vital role, providing a means of protection against the Sun's ultraviolet radiation which can normally kill skin cells, and cause cancer to human beings whilst preventing other lifeforms from existing. Ultra violet light also has been shown to bring DNA damage to many types of plants, so the Ozone layer is what allows all this to exist without the constant threat of ultra violet radiation causing significant harm.
