Color blindness is a sex-linked trait that is carried on the X chromosome. For a female to express the color blindness trait, she must have the color blindness gene on both X chromosomes. If she only has it on one, she will not be color blind, but will be considered a carrier. Since males only have one X chromosome, a male with the color blindness gene on his X chromosome will be color blind.
