The middle colonies received migrants from all over Europe. Most of the foreigners professing Christianity were easily awarded citizenship. Easy citizenship and religious tolerance were two major factors for population diversity in the middle colonies. They were different from the new England colonies as they weren't united by a single religion or code beliefs. migration of people of different nationalities led to religious toleration and cultural diversity.German migrants favoured the middle colonies and their migration increased after 1717, Scots also started to migrate after 1717. Other groups that migrated were French, Huguenots, Dutch, Swedes, Swiss and Scots.
