Lets do this step by step:
1 wall = 1 whole or
Jacob painted
of the wall
(because
is a quarter of 1 whole)
His little brother painted
of the wall
Find the common denominator which is 4:
1/4 × 1 = 1/4 and 1/2 × 2 = 2/4
(because a half of 1/4 is 1/2)
Therefore your answer is "1/2."
