Why do endurance athletes load up on carbohydrate-containing foods before a big event? Why don’t they just fill up

on fat and protein as well?

they don't fill up on fats because they are very unhealthy for athletes. i know for me, when i have a big game i like to fill up on carbs and on protein, they fill me up and give me plenty of energy throughout the whole game.
