The correct answer is A) Midway was chosen due to it’s close proximity to the American’s Hawaii base.

Midway was a small island northeast of Hawaii, Yamamoto wanted to attack it because he knew the Americans would defend it, due it’s proximity to Hawaii, this way he would turn the island into a trap and destroy the aircraft there. Also, it was a good location to expand Japan’s defensive perimeter and force the US to negotiate.
