Chemical engineers design and produce the systems, machinery and facilities that use chemical reactions to create products. The American Institute of Chemical Engineers says, "Chemical engineering is the profession in which a knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, and other natural sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop economic ways of using materials and energy . . ." Mechanical engineers design systems, equipment and products that rely on motion.
