If, in an equation, we add or subtract something from both the left and the right side of an equation, the expression will still be correct. For example, if we have 5=5, and subtract 3 from both sides, we get 2=2, which is still correct. If we have x + 7 = x + 7, and we subtract 2, we get x + 5 = x + 5.

With that said:

-3x + y = 5 / if we’re solving for y, add 3x to each side to isolate the y on the left side

y = 5 + 3x, and that should be your answer

Note that all the answer choices starts with "y =". This means that they want you to isolate the y.

Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other. Isolate the y. Add 3x to both sides

y - 3x (+3x) = 5 (+3x)

y = 5 + 3x

y = 3x + 5 is your answer (i'm assuming that's what you meant for A.
