In completing your essay, you are going to want to consider the following:

John Locke's views on why humans left nature formed the intellectual foundation for much of the age of revolution (US, France, etc). The key component of this is that Locke believed that we all make the conscious choice to form together for our mutual benefit. Even though we form together we retain "natural rights." Locke defined those as "life, liberty, and property." This ideal famouly popped up in the Declaration of Independence when Jefferson wrote about our inalienable rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Locke's influence on Jefferson is almost absolute and many revolutionaries took their cues from Jefferson & Locke. Both, for instance, believed that a little revolution every now and then is good for the soul and is the obligation of a free-thinking citizen.
