What is the difference between ≤ and < ?

I get confused over these two signs. Do they both mean the same thing? Does the line under the < make a difference in the answer to the inequality? Please explain.

`2 < 4`
This means 2 is less than 4. Think of this sign like a shark. The shark always wants to eat the bigger number. So the bigger end is closer to the bigger number which is 4


`2x \leqslant 4`
This means 2x is less than OR equal to 4. This means that it either equals 4 or is less than for. x can be 2 or any number lower than 2 to make the inequality true. So eat must be

`x \leqslant 2`
X in this case to the inequality can be 2,1,0,-1 etc
