The main purpose of Kreb's Cycle is to reduce the electron carriers: FADH2 and NADH. These electrons are then passed to the electron transport chain by these carriers to generate a concentration gradient of Hydrogen ions between the intermembrane space and matrix of the mitochondria. This drives ATP synthase where the actual majority of ATP is synthesized.
