Genetic variation is when different genes are mixed with other genes. If genes are the same, or not varied, then birth defects and other issues can occur within the organism. This is called inbreeding.

The Genetic Variation in a Population Is Caused by Multiple Factors. Genetic variation describes naturally occurring genetic differences among individuals of the same species. This variation permits flexibility and survival of a population in the face of changing environmental circumstances.
